The Schlossbergsteig is a path of two hundred and sixty steps leading from the Schlossbergplatz up to the Uhrturm – the clock tower. The first section of the path was built 1916/18 by Army Engineers and Russian Prisoners of War, hence the alternate name “Russian Path.”
Another name commonly used is Kriegssteig – “War Path” – since it was built during the First World War. The Jubiläums-Felsensteig – the Jubilee path – is a newer section of path along the western precipitous rock faces, that was inaugurated 1928 at the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the city.
